Foster Grandparent Program

Seniors 55 years and older help children with special needs through one-on-one mentoring, with literacy assistance, and through support in various community settings.

Foster Grandparent Program

Foster Grandparent volunteers give children and youth the much needed attention that can change lives. These special volunteers tutor and mentor children and youth one-on-one in school and community settings.

Areas served: Primarily Gary, Hammond and Hobart

Senior Companion Program

Seniors 55 years and older assist frail, often homebound, elderly citizens maintain independence.

Senior Companion volunteers assist other older adults to live independently and be able to continue living at home and avoid the need for more expensive, less personal care. The companions assist with grocery shopping and other daily tasks necessary to maintaining independence or simply "act as a friend" and visit with their peer.

Areas served are primarily East Chicago, Gary and Hammond.

Senior Companion Program

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program

Men and women 55 years and older volunteer at sites in Lake, LaPorte and Strake Counties.

RSVP is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service/National Senior Service Corps, which involves older adults, 55 and over, from all walks of life in volunteer service to the community.

RSVP is changing the image of the older adult. RSVP offers community opportunities specialized for the older adult. When you join RSVP, you will have a chance to learn new skills and become involved in activities that will benefit the local community. Through RSVP, volunteers match their skills, wisdom and talents with the needs of the community.

WHO MAY JOIN RSVP?

  • Seniors 55 and older
  • Seniors who have a genuine desire to make a difference in their community
  • Seniors who have a few (or many) hours to give
  • No restrictions based on education, experience, income, gender, race or physical challenge

Children's Vision Screening
Provides vision screening for preschoolers at all elementary schools and day care centers in Laporte and Starke Counties.

Ramp/Minor Home Repair
Keeps Laporte County residents safely in their homes by providing wheelchair ramps and minor home repairs for the elderly and/or handicapped of Laporte County.

Blanketeers
Blankets/Lap robes, Caps, Hats, Afghans, Scarves, Draft Dodgers, Walker and Wheelchair Bags handmade for the elderly, handicapped and children of Laporte County.

Triad of Laporte County
A collaboration between RSVP, Law Enforcement and Numerous Community Organizations, profit and non-profit, addressing the safety, protection and well-being of seniors of Laporte County.

Community Activities
RSVP Volunteers Serve at many County Community Locations, hospitals, nursing facilities, libraries, museums, soup kitchens, meals-on-wheels, neighborhood and senior centers, American Red Cross, homeless shelters, food pantries, thrift shops, etc.
